Best Google Ads Strategy For Tree Service (2026)

Four practical Google Ads settings and tactics that help tree-service companies avoid wasted spend and get better leads in 2026.

By Colton / TreeOperator Field Notes

Google Ads is an incredible medium of success for any tree service. The trouble is there is an unreal amount of nuance and information, and levers to pull, so unless you know the platform's ins and outs, you can waste a ton of money.

You have to look at it through the lens of what Google Search has turned into with the increasingly "zero-click" search experience. A lot of estimates suggest that overall clicks are down by 30-40%, invariably driving Google Search Ads cost per click higher and making it harder to get attention on your website.

That's why there are a few things I would do, but also a few I would stay away from.

1. Ensure Search Partners is turned OFF

This one is no secret to an experienced media buyer, but to a small business owner trying to create their own success, it's a critical component. Search Partners is a partnership Google has with hundreds of thousands of websites and platforms where Google is allowed to display ad targeting. The trouble with this, in my experience, for local service companies is this is traffic that's RARELY, if ever, in your service area, and not to mention extremely low quality. I sometimes question whether they are even human.

This can cause your ad budget to hemorrhage and effectively drive your cost per conversion (phone call or lead form) higher.

2. Target people IN your area, not just people interested in it

Google and most major platforms are really good at hiding important parts of your campaign to make sure they can take more control of your ad budget. Do yourself a favor and always expand any view you can while building your campaign. Never trust that they have your best interests in mind.

Make sure you select, in your geo-targeting section, that you want your ads to display for people ONLY in your targeted area, not just people merely interested in it.

3. Use keyword insertion for Search Ads

Ad relevance plays a huge role in what Google will display in their ad search results. Make sure you are using keyword insertions to help match what your customer is typing into the search bar. If your ad matches your customer's query, you have a much better chance of them clicking the ad, and for Google to show your relevant ad.

4. Connect Your Google Business Profile to Your Google Ads

For local search intent, your GBP is everything. You can actually appear in the GBP section with a sponsored ad without it being a Local Service Ad. So make sure you connect it and use it to target your ideal customer.
